Hillsboro Elementary/Middle School (Franklin, TN)

On December 13, Toni Peterson wrote, “Judy Butler came to Hillsboro School to kick off our habitat adoption.  She conducted a journaling activity to help the students become better observers of nature.”  Here is a picture of Judy with some of the students:

She added,Our habitat begins in the grassy playground area and extends to the creek that borders the school property. Our habitat has mature trees, grass areas, a thicket of bushes, small trees, and vines along a creek bank. Across from the creek is a road.”

“We are in the midst of mapping our habitat and naming the plants.  The students picked leaves and photographed samples before all were lost.  I have shared the literature study with the two 5th grade classes in my school.  My 3 gifted education students are doing the research and taking a lead in activities we are planning for an outdoor day in the spring for both classes.  The students are thrilled with this authentic experience.”

She included a “diamante” written by Tealie, Chase, and Hayden:
